Anecdotes from five-year-olds

The school year has begun (can you tell from my lack of blogging?) and I have been blessed with yet another group of ADORABLE five-year-olds. They are just the cutest! Here are a few anecdotes for you to agree with me:

A few weeks ago, we were doing a science experiment to discover what magnets stuck to. I teach in French to students of various linguistic backgrounds, and in French the word 'to stick' (coller) is the same as the word for a glue stick (bâton de colle). So as I let the children roam about the classroom in pairs with their magnets, one little boy sits down and proceeds to put glue all over his magnet! I saw this happen and was able to rectify the situation pretty quickly, explaining that we didn't need glue for magnets to stick and why didn't he come with me so I could show him, but it was a super cute mistake none-the-less. And linguistically speaking, I'm glad he actually understood the word 'colle'!

Yesterday, I read the students a little story from the book 'Les Petits Philosophes' (little philosophers) which led to the question "Where are babies before they are born?". I got a lot of really cute answers, ranging from 'in the sky' to 'with a big bird who brings them to their mommies' to 'in an egg in the mamma's stomach', but the absolute best answer was: They are in an airport waiting, and then they get into this special plane that cuts the mom's stomach open and then they go in and that's how babies get into mommies' stomachs. So cute!

Other than that, life is pretty great. I'm doing two Masters classes and enjoying learning while teaching and really combining theory and practice. Taco is doing well, although a cat scratched his eye about a month ago, he is fine now. And my husband has a new job and he is really liking it! I hope to update more often, but it hasn't been easy to make time for the blog!
